Online CPD software for regulators and licensing bodies

Every licence holder on your register has to complete their CPD before they renew. Howio runs it online under your name, checks that each person is who they say they are, and shows you where the whole register is up to.

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board in New Zealand runs its online CPD on Howio. 7,339 practitioners completed it in 2025.

Your licence holders work right across the country

They’re on site, on the road and in regional towns a long way from the nearest venue, and their CPD has to fit around the job. When renewals come round, you need to know who has finished, who still has to, and that the person who completed each module is the licence holder. If a record is ever questioned, it has to stand up.

A CPD cycle on Howio

What a licensing year looks like from your side

  1. Before the cycle opens

You load your CPD modules, set which are mandatory and which are electives, and design a path for each licence class so every licence holder sees what their class requires. Where a module needs a pass mark, you set it.

  2. While it’s open

Licence holders sign in through your website and go straight into their CPD, with no second account to set up. Howio verifies their ID and email address, they pay the fee in the same journey, and each module is recorded as it’s finished.

  3. As renewals get close

Reporting shows completions across the register at any point. Automated reminders and targeted campaigns go to the people who haven’t finished, so you’re following up a shrinking list.

  4. After renewals

Every licence holder has a record with their progress, scores, receipts and email history, and a certificate for each completion. If anyone asks about a licence holder’s CPD, you search their name.

Case study

How the regulator for New Zealand tradespeople put its CPD online

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board is the national regulator for around 15,000 plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers in New Zealand, and it sets and delivers their annual CPD. Practitioners sign in through the Board’s own website, and the identity check and the fee sit in the same journey before they start. That gives the Board a record for each practitioner it can rely on at renewal.

If you’re a licence holder looking for your CPD, your regulator or licensing body sets out your requirements on its own website. For New Zealand trades, our pages on PGDB CPD, EWRB CPD and LBP CPD explain how each one works.

Questions about CPD software for regulators

What is CPD software for regulators?
CPD software for regulators is what a regulator or licensing body uses to deliver continuing professional development online, verify who’s completing it and keep a record for each licence holder.
How do you know the person completing the module is the licence holder?
Howio verifies learner IDs and email addresses automatically. It keeps a selfie for later verification rather than storing ID documents.
Can different licence classes get different CPD?
Yes. You design a path for each licence class, so each licence holder sees the mandatory modules and electives their class requires.
Can we charge the CPD fee online?
Yes. Licence holders pay in the same journey as their CPD, and the payment record is kept alongside their completion.
Does Howio write the CPD content?
No. The regulator writes and owns the CPD. The AI course builder can turn your guidance documents, presentations and video into draft modules you then edit.
