LMS for builders and construction companies
Your business's name is on the building, whoever did the work. With Howio you show every crew and subcontractor how each job is done on your sites, and you keep a record of who's completed the training.
The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board in New Zealand runs its online CPD on Howio. 7,339 practitioners completed it in 2025.
Much of the work on your sites is done by other people's crews
A subcontractor's crew turns up on Monday having never seen your site rules, and a new carpenter fixes cladding the way their last employer did it. A missed flashing or an unguarded edge might not show on the day, and the result can be a leak inside a wall or someone hurt in a fall. In New Zealand, restricted building work has to be done or supervised by a licensed building practitioner, who puts their name to it in a record of work. The Health and Safety at Work Act also requires your business to make sure the people who work for you are properly trained and supervised. Briefing each crew once at the gate is hard to repeat for the next one, and it's harder still to prove later.
How Howio helps
Show every crew how the job is done on your sites, and keep the record
Build it from what you already have
Describe what you want, or drop in your site rules, a manufacturer's installation guide, a video shot on site or your own photos, and the AI course builder turns it into a draft course you can edit to match how your business works. If you don't have images, you can create them in the course builder.
Done on a phone, before they reach the gate
Send a link by email and each person, subcontractors included, opens the course in their phone browser. There's no app to install and no account to set up.
A record of who has done it
Search for anyone by name and see which courses they've completed, the date and their score. When a client, a head contractor or an inspector asks how the people on your site were trained, you've got the record to show them.
Refreshers that come round on time
Set automated reminders for the refreshers that matter, such as working at height or your site induction, and issue a certificate on completion that renews automatically when it's due. Certificates can carry your branding and be added to a LinkedIn profile.
What builders and construction companies put on Howio
Each person sees the courses that match their role, so an apprentice, a site supervisor and a subcontractor get different training.
Site induction
A site induction for your own crews and every subcontractor, done before they arrive.
Installation method
The manufacturer's installation method for the cladding, roofing or membrane system you're using.
Weathertightness
Weathertightness details, such as flashings, shown step by step.
Working at height
Working at height and scaffold checks.
Toolbox talks
Toolbox talks people can go back to after the morning they were given.
Scenarios
Branching scenarios, such as what to do when the work in front of you doesn't match the plans.
Case study
A New Zealand trade regulator runs its licence CPD on Howio
The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board runs its online CPD on Howio, and 7,339 practitioners completed it in 2025. None of them are on the Board's payroll, and they do their training on site and between jobs, on a phone. You use the same software to train your own crews and the subcontractors who work on your sites.

Questions about an LMS for builders and construction companies
- What is an LMS for construction companies?
- An LMS (learning management system) for construction companies is software a building business uses to build training, send it to its crews and subcontractors, and keep a record of who has completed it. Howio is built for people who work on site, so courses run in a phone browser.
- Can subcontractors do the training without an account?
- Yes. You send a link, and they open the course in their phone browser with no app to install and no account to set up.
- Can training on Howio count towards LBP skills maintenance?
- It can count as an elective activity if it's relevant to the practitioner's licence class. In New Zealand, licensed building practitioners choose their own elective activities and keep their own record of them, so each practitioner decides what to include. Howio issues a certificate on completion that they can keep with that record.
- Can I see who has completed a course, and when?
- Yes. Search for the person by name to see their status, results and completion date.
- Does Howio connect to the software we already use?
- Howio integrates with Simpro, as well as payment, sign-in and CRM systems.
