Take payments with how.io (Stripe)

Take card payments without your own Stripe account: how.io sets one up for you.

If you don't already have a Stripe account, how.io can set one up for you. Your account sits under how.io's, so you never need to find or paste API keys. Learners pay through Stripe and Stripe pays the money out to your bank account.

Set it up

  1. In Connect a service, choose Stripe.
  2. Choose Use how.io payments, then Set up payments.
  3. Check your business details. We fill in your country, business type, legal name, payout currency and email from your organisation's profile. Change anything that's wrong.
  4. Choose Continue to Stripe ↗. Stripe opens in a new page, showing the how.io name and logo.
  5. On Stripe's pages, confirm your identity and bank details and accept Stripe's terms.
  6. When you're done, Stripe sends you back to how.io.

While Stripe checks your details

Stripe can take some time to check ID. Until it's finished, the connection shows Verifying, with a list of what Stripe has approved and what's still pending.

  • You can add the payment step to your course flow now, but it won't charge anyone until verification passes.
  • If Stripe needs something else from you, choose Continue with Stripe ↗ to go back and finish it.

When it's ready

Once Stripe has approved everything, the connection shows your account and payout details and the price for this course. Payouts and refunds are handled in Stripe's dashboard: choose the link on the connection to open it.
